A Disney cruise from Port Canaveral vs Fort Lauderdale comes down to how you get there. Port Canaveral is the drive-to door, about an hour east of Orlando, home to Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, with Disney Destiny moving there for a first sailing on 30 November 2027. Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) is the fly-in door, close to FLL airport, and becomes Disney Believe’s homeport with a maiden voyage on 18 December 2027.

Both doors reach The Bahamas, and both can include Disney Castaway Cay. Pick the port your family can reach without a red-eye or a six-hour drive, then pick the ship. Coco matches that at /match. No fares on this page.

Port Canaveral vs Fort Lauderdale at a glance

Getting there: Port Canaveral suits families who can drive from Orlando or Central Florida, or who pair the cruise with a park stay. Port Everglades suits families flying in; Port Everglades says it gives direct access to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Ships, as announced: Port Canaveral has Disney Wish and Disney Treasure now, and Disney Destiny from 30 November 2027. Port Everglades gets Disney Believe from 18 December 2027, sailing 4- and 5-night Bahamas and Caribbean trips (Disney Cruise Line and Port Everglades, 7 October 2026).

Islands: Destiny’s first Canaveral sailing is a 3-night Bahamas trip calling at Disney Castaway Cay. Believe sailings stop at one or both of Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Check the exact itinerary on disneycruise.com before you plan around one island.

Terminal: at Port Canaveral, Disney mostly uses Cruise Terminal 8, with some Wish sailings at Terminal 10. At Port Everglades, Disney Cruise Line has a dedicated terminal.

When did Disney Believe booking open? (booking dates)

Castaway Club early booking started Monday 12 October 2026 with Pearl members, then Platinum on 13 October, Gold on 14 October, and Silver plus eligible Disney Vacation Club members on 15 October. General booking opened on Monday 19 October 2026 at 8 a.m. ET, so anyone can book Believe now (Disney Cruise Line’s Believe booking page; Disney Cruise Line Blog and WDW News Today, October 2026).

Inaugural dates can sell out before general booking; see the maiden voyage note below. I do not quote maiden-voyage prices here; check disneycruise.com live.

What port does Disney Believe sail from?

Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Disney Cruise Line and Port Everglades announced the homeport on 7 October 2026.

Believe is the fourth Wish-class ship, after Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. It is not coming to Port Canaveral on what has been announced.

Disney Believe maiden voyage

The maiden voyage leaves Port Everglades on 18 December 2027. WDW News Today lists it as a 5-night Bahamas cruise with Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney Castaway Cay, and Nassau.

Fan sites WDW News Today and BlogMickey reported on 14 October 2026 that the maiden voyage sold out during Castaway Club early booking, before general booking opened. Disney Cruise Line has not announced that itself, and cabins can come back as plans change, so check disneycruise.com.

A maiden voyage is a big-day trip with long lead time. If the date matters more than the ship, a Wish or Treasure sailing from Port Canaveral is easier to plan.

Will Disney Destiny sail from Port Canaveral?

Yes, per Disney Cruise Line’s fall 2027 and spring 2028 itinerary release. Disney Destiny’s first Port Canaveral sailing is a 3-night Bahamas cruise on Tuesday 30 November 2027, calling at Disney Castaway Cay (Travel Weekly cruise schedule also lists it).

So from late 2027, Port Canaveral has three Wish-class ships (Wish, Treasure, Destiny) and Fort Lauderdale has Believe.

What terminal is the Disney Wish at Port Canaveral?

Usually Cruise Terminal 8 (9155 Charles M. Rowland Drive), with some 2026 Wish dates at Cruise Terminal 10 on Port Canaveral’s master schedule. Treasure uses Terminal 8.

Confirm the terminal in your Disney Cruise Line app or travel documents before you set GPS. The full walk-through is in Disney cruise first time Port Canaveral (/blog/disney-cruise-first-time-port-canaveral).

Is Port Canaveral or Fort Lauderdale better for a Disney cruise?

Port Canaveral is better if you can drive, want Orlando parks before or after, or want the widest choice of Wish-class ships. Fort Lauderdale is better if you fly in and want a short airport transfer, or you want Believe specifically.

Neither is better for kids by itself. The ship, the length, and the island day matter more. I will not promise Kids Sail Free on any sailing.

A Royal contrast from the same Canaveral door

If your family is set on Port Canaveral but open on the line, Coco’s family plant is Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, Sunday 17 January 2027, 7 nights Western Caribbean plus CocoCay. That is the contrast, not a swap for Disney. Space is not held.

Match with Coco

Tell Coco who is sailing, whether you will drive or fly, and if Disney is a must. A Canaveral family starts at /match (Port Canaveral family week: /match/canaveral-family).

No fares on this page. A human only prices, holds a cabin, or takes a deposit after you Match. Space is not held.
